Canada’s premier Bluegrass band consists of Alan (guitar) & Rick (banjo) Spinney, Gary Dalrymple (mandolin) and Darryl Hebb (bass). They have been together for a number of years but in 2010 they quit their day jobs and went full-time, not any easy thing to do in Canada. They are members of the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame since 2010.
Last year they played on the main stage at the International Bluegrass Music Association Convention (IBMA) in Nashville. Alison Krauss, Ricky Skaggs and Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers were at the same event. I was lucky enough to be there to see them receive two standing ovations, the only band at the concert to be so honoured.
Immediately after that show they were signed on by Mountain Fever Recording Company and bookings for major festivals on the US Bluegrass Festival Circuit started piling up. Throughout 2012 they have been one of the most popular bands on the circuit. Their title song, “Memories” on their first Mountain Fever CD and the CD itself both made the top 5 in US Bluegrass Charts as they traveled to the four corners of the US.
Expect good singing, hot picking and a very entertaining presentation!
